Let’s face it. Some organizations are scared of any group that proclaims themselves as experts. Others don’t have the time, support, or accepted leadership to implement a Center of Excellence (COE). This session tells the tale of how a small team was able to establish a Business Analyst Center of Excellence despite all the common obstacles: political opposition and conflicts, authority/control issues, lack of resources and funding, little management support, and multiple groups controlling the BA job and role.
For SunTrust, we implemented a leadership body that could:
- Be advocates for the BA role
- Prioritize and influence changes impacting the business analyst role
- Improve BA communication and support
This is not a fairy tale journey, but a realistic story that proves anything is possible with the right planning and perseverance. We will discuss our strategies, intent, and how those needed to evolve with organizational and business changes. You’ll also learn about the pitfalls and risks of pursuing or participating in a COE. In the end, the BA COE has been adopted as the model and standard for improving delivery quality and capabilities.
